ANT XXI-4, Capetown-Capetown
Antarctic
Polar Zone: Lazarev Sea
Begin date: 27 March 2004 – end date: 6 May 2004
- Title: ANT XXI-4, Capetown-Capetown
- Summary: The krill expedition ANTXXI-4 contributed to the
international GLOBEC and CCAMLR research program, focusing
on the survival mechanisms of Krill, Euphausia superba. During
this campaign the interest of our lab was to collect fish and
ichtyoplancton from the pelagic trawls.
While larvae of Electrona antarctica (Myctophidae, Lantern
fishes) and Notolepis sp. (Paralepididae) were abundant in
the oceanic area, larvae of P. antarcticum dominated on the
shelf. At nighttime adult myctophids occurred in high numbers
in the catches. These samples were taken back to the lab for
genetic en ecological studies and to compare hem with modeling
data.
