a project that stimulates access to the marine biodiversity information for the Southern Ocean.

Belgium’s contribution to The International Polar Year (IPY- Belgium 2007/2008):
an initiative of the International Council for Science , that aims at getting to an intensive burst of internationally coordinated, interdisciplinary, scientific research and observations focused on the earth’s high latitudes.

Belgium’s Antarctic research station:
In 2004, the Belgian government commissioned the International Polar Foundation (IPF) to design and construct a new research base in Antarctica, to become operational during the International Polar Year. After its construction the base will be maintained and operated by Belgian Federal Science Policy Office (BELSPO).
