![]() Introduction After the closure of the Roi Baudouin base in 1967, a period of discontinuous activities followed. In 1985 Belgium resumed its Antarctica activities at the scientific level with a multi-annual research programme, while at the political level Belgium took active part in the development of the Protocol on Environmental Protection to the Antarctic Treaty in 1991. At present the Belgian Science Policy supports high quality research teams, internationally recognised within the fields of ice-dynamics modelling, biogeochemical modelling, food-web dynamics, shelf slope dynamics and marine biodiversity. Not all Belgian polar scientists are funded by the Belgian Science Policy, but participate nevertheless to international scientific polar programmes. The following sections therefore try to give you a complete overview of all Belgian scientists – funded or not by the Belgian Science Policy - active in polar research, including the results of their work..
