Equinox Summit II

Meeting of experts / officials

At the COP28 meeting, the parties to the UNFCCC recognized the urgency of climate action in this critical decade, and recognized that actions should be informed and aligned with science.

That concept was also central to the first Equinox Summit , organised by JPI Climate  and convened by the Belgian government on March 21 & 22 last year to accelerate the development and transfer of knowledge from science to policy and action across the European research area. The concluding statement of the Equinox Summit requested that JPI Climate identify how this could be achieved and to report back on this at a subsequent edition in March 2024.

In response, JPI Climate has engaged with a range of actors and stakeholders in science and policy as well as private sector actors. This includes a dedicated session at Think2030  Dialogue Spain, and a COP28 Side Event with the Irish Minister for Environment, Climate and Communication.

Now, at this second edition, JPI Climate will present tangible examples of actions that can accelerate the transfer of knowledge from science to policy and actions. These range across the thematic areas previously identified (climate neutrality, climate resilience and societal transformation) as well as the fundamental science that underpins them.
