Research project AG/DD/008 (Research action AG)
The project addresses the two following research questions:
1° On the basis of the Health Survey 1997, what are the nature and the importance of socio-economic health inequalities in Belgium? (in other words, how are sickness and health unequally distributed according to the different social groups?)
2° What kind of financial thresholds were experienced by the respondents of the Survey in accessing healthcare?
Implementation:
Production and interpretation of statistical analysis for Health Survey data 1997. The sample is regionally stratified: 3500 in the Flemish and Walloon Regions, and 3000 in the Brussels Region. The Health Survey database offers 218 indicators:
- descriptive indicators (a.o. by age, gender and nationality);
- socio-economic indicators (a.o. by skills, professional activity and housing);
- health indicators (a.o. subjective perception of health, prevalence of long diseases, physical limitations, social functioning, presence of complaints over health, care consumption, attitudes towards smoking, alcohol addiction, nutrition and physical activity, cardiovascular prevention;
- access to healthcare (a.o. postponement or renouncement to healthcare for financial reasons, health expenses difficult or impossible, stopping of a medication for financial reasons, true costs of healthcare.
