Research project AG/HH/126 (Research action AG)
The project “Database ‘complaints’” will develop a database for the Institute of Equality between Women and Men. This database’s aim is to support the way in which the complaints are dealt with as well as the way in which they will be reported to the authorities. The database comprises both national languages and will be a tool for the registration, conservation and processing of complaints about direct or indirect discrimination on the basis of gender –including transsexuality–, harassments (if these relate to the sex of the victim) and unwanted sexual behaviour, which are part of the authority of the institute.
The database anticipated will enable the Institute to:
• treat the complaints in a more rational and effective way;
• have a strong basis for the annual report (foreseen by the law); on the basis of the registered data, the Institute will have a systematic overview at its disposal of the number of complaints, the language, the geographic division and the nature of the complaint, the phases of treatment and the referring and closing of the files;
• point out and remedy the existing discriminations;
• introduce comparable indicators on a European and international level;
• provide useful information to persons and institutions who investigate (sociological, legally or otherwise) the evolution of equality between men and women in Belgium.
