Description :

The GD “Statistics and Economic Information” of the Federal Public Service Economy collects data on time use of approximately 4000 households between 1 January 2005 and 31 December 2005, in accordance with the guidelines of Eurostat (harmonised survey).
The time use survey is linked to the household budget survey. 4000 households take part first in the budget survey (listing their income and expenditures) and next by filling in an individual notebook about their time use.
A time use survey was already held in 1999 by the GD Statistics and Economic Information, following the same principles. From 1995 on, the household budget survey is a continuous survey.

The aim of this project is to make use of the fact that the same households take part in both surveys to make a link between the time use of households and their consumption pattern. Up to now, this link was never made. For this purpose, the data of the time use survey 2005 have to be made exploitable and have to be analysed. Subsequently, they will be coupled to the data from the household budget survey.

As a second part, data from the 2005 survey will be inserted into the Eurostat project Harmonised Time Use Survey Database, in order to make international comparisons possible.
