European Observatory of Written Heritage / Low Countries (EOW/LC)

Research project BL/31/FWI30 (Research action BL)

Description :

Summary
Objectives of the networking
The purpose of this networking is to create a two-level network around medieval manuscript / early printed heritage and Digital Humanities, by firstly constituting a scholarly interest group ‘Low Countries’ between KBR and other Belgian partners (Universities of Ghent and Namur in a first stage), and to open the network to other BeNeLux actors like Bibliothèque nationale de Luxembourg (OP1), which could contribute to the network with information about written heritage activities in Luxembourg and the ‘Grande Région’ (North East France and North West Germany). These partners will participate with IRHT (Institut de Recherche et d’Histoire des Textes, CNRS Paris) to create the so called European Observatory of Written Heritage network. In the framework of Biblissima international portal (https://projet.biblissima.fr/) managed by ‘Campus Condorcet’ (an international research and educational infrastructure for human and social sciences), contents and resources from KBR and from other ‘Low Countries’ partners could then be integrated in the shared portal.

Project Partners 1. Royal Library of Belgium, Department of Manuscripts (P1 – Coordinator)
2. Universiteitsbibliotheek Gent (P2)
3. Université de Namur – PraMÉ, Centre de recherche « Pratiques médiévales de l'écrit » (P3)
4. Campus Condorcet – Biblissima / IRHT – CNRS (PI)
5. Bibliothèque nationale de Luxembourg (OP 1).

Long term perspective regarding institutional research cooperation
Next steps for the implementation of EOWH network and EOWH / LC sub-network fall outside the present BelSPo networking. The technical adaptation of the ‘Biblissima-France’ portal in order to integrate foreign contents will be of the responsibility of IRHT (PI). The participation of KBR (P1) in the Biblissima international portal has already been acted in principle by the KBR executive committee and would be funded by own KBR financial resources if necessary. The participation of P1 (KBR) in further research programs driven by the new Biblissima international network will be decided in due time, each of the other ‘Low Countries’ partners being free of deciding for themselves.
