The plasmids collection BCCM/LMBP contains around 1,300 plasmids in the form of pure DNA and about 2,800 host/plasmid combinations. Although forms ofEscherichiacoli are generally used, Gram-positive bacteria such as Enterococcus faecalis, Lactococcus lactis and Staphylococcus aureus also come into consideration as host strains.
The plasmids collection BCCM/LMBP forms part of a consortium of service-providing collections, the Belgian Co-ordinated Collections of Micro-organisms, which also includes the biomedical fungi/yeasts collection BCCM/IHEM, the (agro-)industrial fungi/yeasts collection BCCM/MUCL and the bacteria collection BCCM/LMG.
