Labour market data interface

Research project DB/DD/013 (Research action DB)

Persons :

Description :

This project's objective is to exploit the federal administrative databases concerning work and unemployment, notably those of the ONEM, ONSS, Crossroads Bank of the Social Security administration, Ministry of Employment and Labour, and also the work force survey of the NIS. Implementation of the project notably relies on developing data processing methods and on comparing the above data with data from other sources or with the results of longitudinal surveys.

The specific project tasks are as follows:

1. a documentary mission

There is a WET documentation centre (work, employment, training) at both the KU Leuven and the ULB. Access is provided to a wide variety of statistical data, reviews, monographs, research reports, and reference books. A quarterly newsletter is published: Work, Employment, Training. KU Leuven, furthermore, offers a WAV-Hotline, a permanent telephone line for concrete questions concerning the labour market. The hotline helps any interested person to find his or her way in the labyrinth of statistical data, concepts, references, and answers any questions concerning the interpretation and validity of the figures.

2. creating groups of statistical databases users

Groups of users are created with a double aim: to better understand the statistical data and to propose improvements in collecting, processing, or presenting data relevant to the study of the labour market. These groups are composed of users (scientists, representatives of the various administrations, of analysis/survey departments, etc.) and collaborators in the relevant public administrations (producers of databases).

3. a longitudinal survey

Moreover, the ULB pole conducts longitudinal surveys concerning employment policy and its impact on professional life and careers.
