Research project DB/DD/031 (Research action DB)
The objective of the Criminological Data Interface (Interface Données Criminologiques - Interface Criminologische Gegevens) is to make available and exploit the data of federal administrative bases of data pertaining to criminality, the administrative police, and of criminal justice administration, to the benefit of social science research.
The project deals with databases containing morphological data on municipality-dependent police forces, on state police force units, on criminal investigation brigades working under the public prosecutors, on special federal police departments and inspectorates, and on various judicial departments. The scope of the Criminological Data Interface also includes criminality data recorded by the police and convictions in the criminal courts.
These databases are exploited through the organisation of reading committees, seminars, and study sessions, and through a trimestrial newsletter, Crime on Line.
The ICG sees as its mission to place in their contexts the criminality data recorded by the regular police departments and by the special federal police departments and inspectorates. This involves adding a commentary and other data that might be useful in interpreting the criminality figures.
