Security of existence. Exploiting the data of the panel study on Belgian Households

Description :

In this project data from the Panel Study of Belgian Households will be analysed, grouped and compared with the data of additional surveys conducted in 1992, 1993, and 1994. The objective is to contribute to the assessment of social policy measures in Belgium.

The following topics will be stressed:

- the combination of socio-economic factors characterising the poorest layers of the population;
- the tendency of poor families to accumulate several exclusion-favouring factors (poor housing, lack of training, ill health, isolation ); coordination of the relevant social policies;
- housing: study of the financial accessibility of quality housing, analysis of the impact of social housing policy;
- the link between educational level and poverty: analysis of the link between education, labour market insertion, employment, and wages;
- analysis of redistribution policy and of the efficacy of social benefit targeting.
