Description :

This longitudinal research will be based on the first three waves of the Panel Study of Belgian Households. It will supply detailed data complementary to existing statistics in the field of employment and jobs. It will analyse the professional itineraries of adults over the reference period, examining not only the employment sequences but also the various contracts and legal frameworks involved.

We shall study to what extent behaviours in the area of "employability" reflect simple adaptive responses to a changing economic and institutional context or concerted strategies of individuals and family groups. The analysis of differential capacities of job appropriation and its links with the security of existence in various social and age groups should contribute to understanding the current dynamics of social stratification.

The results should above all orient decisions and public policy so as to render them as effective and non-discriminatory as possible.
