ANCHORA – Rooting of a collaborative platform of actors in education towards a sustainable development

Research project I2/2F/203 (Research action I2)

Contract I2/2F/203 :

Duration of the contract :

1/1/2006-31/12/2007

Partners :

  • Université de Liège (Coordinator of the project)
  • Institut d'Eco-Pédagogie asbl
  • Cassiopea asbl

Description :

Sustainable Development calls for the participation of protagonists with very different areas of knowledge and skills…
The internet calls for a pooling of content, information, creation, etc.

The Anchora project takes up the challenge that, between the Internet and Sustainable Development, there are methods to be reinvented, and experiments to be tested. It has the following aims:
• to define and promote collaborative practices on the Internet in the service of projects aimed at achieving sustainable development;
• to support the implementation and anchorage of these practices on a day-to-day basis and the fields of action of the associative partners involved in Education towards Sustainable Development.

The first phase of the Anchora project has made it possible to inject enthusiasm into the possibility for interdisciplinary collaboration between associative partners involved in Education aiming at achieving Sustainable Development.

The second phase of the Anchora project now intends to call on these protagonists to test the collaborative tools and usages of the Internet. A CALL for offers is therefore launched, with priority to associative networks and organisations, to:
- appropriate the collaborative tools and uses of the Internet to (1) prepare and carry through their projects, participating in the implementation of sustainable development (events, campaigns, events, production of tools, etc.) and/or (2) optimise the management of working in teams, in partnership, or in a network;
- work on their methods of using these tools
- or simply find out what these Internet collaborative tools and uses can contribute to their projects participating in the implementation of a sustainable development, or develop their skills in this area.

By doing this, the aims of the Anchora project are (1) to test with these users the potentialities of the collaborative tools and usages of the Internet in relation to projects participating in the implementation of sustainable development (2) to define (good) collaborative practices in relation to these usages, and (3) to anchor these collaborative devices in the practices of those involved.

In practical terms, the Anchora project is organised round:
• information/discovery sessions, known as C+Internet sessions;
• training of those responding to the call: definition of needs, initial training in the use of the collaborative tools made available, availability of collaborative tools on the Internet, training support in the use of these tools for the purposes of their projects;
• opportunities for meetings, exchanges and joint training between those responding to the CALL and resource personnel;
• assessment, in cooperation with those responding to the call, of the potentials of the collaborative Internet tools and usages for the purposes of projects aiming at achieving Sustainable Development;
• the definition of a skills profile for the organisation of collaborative devices of this nature.

Beyond the Anchora project the following results are expected:
• The coordination of an open, distributed collaborative platform as a space for information, exchange, discussion and joint training on the collaborative uses of the Internet and their educational potentials with regard to achieving Sustainable Development;
The development of the collaborative usages of the Internet for achieving sustainable development, through the development of associative projects proposing a collaborative section on the Internet and the websites of the associative organisations, thanks to use of collaborative software solutions (CMS, Wiki, blog, etc).
