Description :

This is a joint project of the Belgian Civil Aviation, air Traffic Control and airport authorities. At present, each sectoral organisation has its own database geared to its own sector activities. Nevertheless, the different organisations are involved at different stages of one and the same process (the flight). It therefore makes sense for the data used to become integrated as part of an information system and for procedures to tally with one another. The common aim is to work more efficiently and improve the services provided through better-quality data and more efficient communication.

The project includes the development of an integrated information system so that important and specific data and information will be directly accessible to the various partners rapidly and efficiently. At the same time, it will be possible to place communication with the outside customer on a modern, efficient footing.
Belgium’s Civil Aviation Authority will be able to carry out its information and control tasks more efficiently. This should guarantee the safety of citizens and passengers and allow fair competition.

Analysis and optimisation of both data flows and working procedures will be integrated within the project.

The project is composed with the following modules :

Needs study
The partnership will conducted an examination into how an integrated information system may be built using data sources from the different partners.
This will include a definition of data whose inclusion in an integrated system is imperative for the user bodies. The structure of existing databases will be maintained as far as possible.

Design study
Next, the architecture of the information system will be mapped out and an appropriate software platform selected. This platform will be examined not only from the point of view of the structure and nature of data, but while also making allowance for the numerous interface assignments with other databases (including international and external ones).

Demonstration project
A prototype integrated information system will then be developed.
