    Duration: 1/1/1998-31/12/1999

Description :

The project aims to be a comparative study of governmental structure and its implementation in the Southern-Netherlands, with special attention for the social powerfield wherein the old provincial, regional and local government institutions developed during the Ancien Régime, particularly in the duchy and province of Brabant.
Following the same structure and directives, specialist-contributors will make detailed studies for each institution, divided into seven sections :

1. origine, development, abolishment/separation, predecessors and successor;
2. organisation and place in the governmental hierarchy;
3. Formal and factual competences;
4. annotated bibliography;
5. archives produced by and related to the institution (including their location);
6. annotated list of published sources;
7. finding aids (repertories, inventories, calendars, etc.) to archives.

One researcher will prepare and supervise the project permanently. In collaboration with the promotor and in consultation of a scientific steering committee he will make a general comparative study and a synthesis. The results will be published by the General State Archives.
