Research project MO/33/014 (Research action MO)
The proposed programme involves ongoing development of new methods for mathematical analysis of gravimetric and magnetic potential fields and applying these methods to data validated at the Belgian Royal Observatory (ORB). Interpretation of this data, in parallel with information on surface or subsurface geology and seismological data, will lead to improved knowledge of deep crustal structures in Belgium and neighbouring regions. This approach will make it possible to establish a link between the information provided at the surface by the geology and the geophysical data. Particular attention will be devoted to identifying zones of weakness liable to be tectonically active and sources of large earthquakes.
