Study of the impact of using combined Galileo and modernized GPS measurements for high accuracy positioning and timing applications

Research project MO/33/015 (Research action MO)

Persons :

  • Dr.  BRUYNINX Carine - Royal Observatory of Belgium ()
    Financed belgian partner
    Duration: 1/1/2005-31/12/2006

Description :

The GPS signal is currently available on two frequencies, but GPS will soon be modernized in order to allow the use of a third frequency. The future European system, Galileo, will also offer three frequencies. As Galileo was designed to be compatible with GPS, we expect numerous advantages to arise from the combination of these two systems.
They will be studied within the framework of this project, which also aims to develop strategies for combined data processing. In this regard, priority is given to accurate positioning and timing. Developed strategies will be tested using simulated GPS and Galileo signals.
