Research project MO/40/004 (Research action MO)
The research project covers the period between 1956, year of the creation of the art journal Quadrum, and 1973, when the last volume of Since 45 was published. It is considered one of the most important episodes in the development of modern art in Belgium. Belgian art of the period is analysed, identified, documented, interpreted and situated in its national and international context. The period starts with the preparatory phase of the Universal exhibition of 1958 and it ends with the oil crisis in 1973. Reference frame for this research project are the quadrilingual review Quadrum. International Review of Modern Art, of which twenty issues were published between 1956 and 1966, and Since 45. The Art of our Time, its continuation in the form of a trilingual series in three volumes that were successively published in 1970, 1971 and 1973.
