Description :

The purpose of this project is to study the late 14th century to early 16th century anonymous works kept in the Royal Museum of Fine Arts of Belgium including the paintings attributed to masters with provisional names. The study of the latter, commenced under the previous contract (MO/40/003) showed the necessity for reviewing certain attributions and approaching the problem from another angle. Various attributions have turned out to be a problem or are ready for review. Certain groups such as those of the Master of the Magdalene Legend are very heterogeneous. This assessment makes use of a new and adapted methodology necessary, which combines traditional stylistic and iconographic research with new laboratory techniques. This methodology will also be applied to the anonymous works.
