Development of a one day method for the detection of monocytogen Listeria and Salmonella

Research project NO/B/002 (Research action NO)

Persons :

Description :

To develop methods to detect Salmonella and Listeria monocytogenes within a period of 24 to 32 hours without any decrease in sensitivity and specificity as compared with conventional practice. The possibilities for shortening certain stages of the conventional methods will be studied. To achieve this a number of recently developed techniques will be applied. These include immunomagnetic separation and PCR. The research will also take account of the options for the optimization of these techniques and integrating the two pathogens in a single medium. The possibility of analyzing "regrouped" samples using the methods developed will also be investigated. Finally the methods approved will undergo several stages of validation.
