OBJECTIVES.

Fundamental aspects of nonlinear dynamics and chaos; study of the complex behaviour of dissipative systems under constraint in physical sciences and biology; microscopic theory of irreversible processes.

THEME.

Self-organization and spatio-temporal patterns in reaction- diffusion systems and materials science; integrability and soliton theory; predictability of chaotic and noisy systems; quantization of classically chaotic systems; probabilistic description of chaos; unstable dynamical systems and foundations of classical and quantum statistical mechanics; fluctuation theory and stochastic processes; microscopic simulation of complex flows, transition to turbulence, chemi- cal instabilities and low-dimensional systems; theoretical modelling and experimental studies of pattern formation, biological rhythms, brain activity, immune response and collective behaviour in social insects; neural nets.
