Protecting citizens' basic rights in the context of the free movement of persons in the process of constructing Europe in new areas

Research project PC/16 (Research action PC)

Persons :

  • Prof. dr.  NAYER Andre - Université Libre de Bruxelles (ULB)
    Financed belgian partner
    Duration: 1/9/1992-31/12/1995

Description :

The research is carried out in a legal perspective and is based on a sociological approach. The aim is to describe the context of migrations and of trends in Belgium's migration policy, so as to take into account both the principle of free movement and the imperatives of the market.

The legal approach aims, on one hand, to shed light on the supranational mechanisms that have led and will lead to the creation, in Belgium, of the free movement of persons; on the other hand, the aim is to assess the place given, within these processes, to respecting the democratic rights of citizens, which the sociological approach seeks to evaluate, by identifying and describing the action of associations whose mission is to defend democratic rights.
