Research project PS/18 (Research action PS)
By a combination of epidemiological and experimental research, performed by a network of four teams with complementary expertise, this research project wishes to contribute to a better knowledge of exposure-related and individual risk factors for work-related asthma. This should lead to the formulation of a scientifically-grounded and ethically acceptable strategy for the prevention, detection and management of work-related asthma, on both the national and the European levels.
The most important objectives of this project are :
1. Obtaining better epidemiological knowledge of work-related asthma in Belgium
2. Investigating the socio-economic consequences of work-related asthma for the affected persons
3. Improving the scientific knowledge of the pathophysiology of work-related asthma
4. Studying and evaluating the attitudes of young persons with increased risk for work-related asthma.
