SIDC - Data Exploitation

Research project PX/8/SS/14 (Research action PX)

Persons :

Description :

The Solar Corona is an ever-changing highly structured object of major scientific interest. It has immediate and enduring effects on Earth, Life, and the Human Beings. The need to observe and understand the solar atmosphere is incontestable. For this, extreme ultraviolet (EUV) full-Sun imaging is among the most appropriate approaches. The Extreme ultraviolet Imaging Telescope (EIT) was launched in 1995 onboard the ESA/NASA SoHO cornerstone-mission. Due to its field of view, its image format, its cadence, and its wide temperature coverage, EIT addresses globally the transition region and the corona.

The project aims at performing the following studies based on EIT observations:

- Multiscale coronal activity.
- The smallest coronal features using Shutterless data.
- Irradiance.
- Dimmings, CME's and their motion.
- Differential rotation and Coronal Holes.

Also within this project, our participation to the EIT Consortium work, in particular the planning of Shutterless campaigns, is organised.

The project will also help to prepare the future in which data from STEREO/SECCHI, PROBA-2/SWAP+LYRA and from SDO/AIA will be available and used at ROB.
