Rotation Of Mercury and Equations of an Orbiter (ROMEO)

Research project PX/8/SS/22 (Research action PX)

Persons :

  • Prof. dr.  LEMAITRE Anne - Facultés Universitaires Notre-Dame de la Paix (FUNDP)
    Coordinator of the project
    Financed belgian partner
    Duration: 1/4/2006-31/12/2006

Description :

The role of the team of Namur is to provide a rigid model of rotation for Mercury, as complete as possible, involving the planetary perturbations and the non spherical shape of the planet.

The purpose is double:
- Evaluation of the direct influence of Mercury's rotation on the motion of the satellite,
- Building of a reference for the measurements of the non rigidity of Mercury.

Satellite(s) or flight opportunity(ies):

- Bepi Colombo

Field of research:

Space Sciences: Planetary Geodesy
