Description :

THEME:

Development and valorization of a signalling system for a variety of risks in industrial healthcare (particularly chemical and biological agents and psychosocial factors).

OBJECTIVES:

Objectives of the network:

a) Development of a new evaluation system for health risks based on data collected in a standardised manner during every medical contact between the industrial physician and the worker;
b) Validation and development of a quality control approach for the system referred to under a);
c) Application of the above system for the evaluation of primary preventative measures.

Increased attention has been focused in recent years on the establishment of monitoring and signalling systems in industrial healthcare. The aim of the study is to evaluate the effectiveness of databanks of this kind in detecting health problems in the workplace, to establish standards and to evaluate primary preventative measures. Although cooperation already occurs in this field with a Dutch institution, the comments of experts will be taken into account and the European and international dimension of the project will be enlarged.

Objectives of Dr. P. Jacques' personal contribution:

a) Evaluation of health risks using data collected in a standardised manner during every medical contact between the industrial physician and the worker;
b) Validation and quality control of the recording system referred to under (a).

Objectives of Dr. P. Jacques' contribution to the secondary study:

a) Application of the aforementioned measuring tool in the network to evaluate primary preventative measures;
b) Testing of the longitudinal research structure needed to evaluate preventative measures of this kind.

This will be done by means of specific questions to be defined in the context of limited case- studies relating to specific preventative measures. The limited pilot-studies will be carried out by the central research institute in close cooperation with industrial physicians and the health and safety committees of the relevant companies, following the establishment of a specific research protocol in each case.

Objectives of Dr. D. Lahaye's personal contribution:

The research activities of the peripheral research groups will consist of implementing the measurement tool, by correctly filling in the machine-readable form during each medical examination, participating in the setting up and execution of the reliability and validity studies, testing the quality control procedure and implementing case-studies for the evaluation of primary preventative measures.
