Development of a standard tool based on spatial Remote Sensing and GIS for the site selection (contingency planning) for hosting displaced people or refugees, taking in account environmental issues

Research project T4/DD/22 (Research action T4)

Persons :

Description :

The pilot project associates a university research team, the IGEAT at ULB, and a private company, I-MAGE which collaborates closely with UNHCR. It aims to develop standard products and procedures based on the use of remote sensing and GIS for contingency planning (site selection). The project will establish data needs in the humanitarian context for contingency planning (scale, definition and precision) and, if possible and necessary, improve them with high and very high resolution remote sensing to match the identified needs. These data will then be valorised in a tool for decision support; it will consist of standard scenario conceived within a GIS and lead to the selection of camps sites. The impact of data errors and weights of the criteria will be established.
