Advantages for the civilian sector of military know-how

Research project VP/11 (Research action VP)

Persons :

Description :

Geopolitical changes lead and will lead to the reconversion of various defense-linked sectors and industries. Yet civilian industrial sectors are in operation, making it unrealistic to envisage the pure and simple reconversion of the military sector.

This research aims at understanding the scientific and technological mechanisms involved in defense sector reconversion.
This means analysing the technologies concerned and considering their possible incidence on the civilian sector.

The methodology used consists in considering four aspects of these technologies :

1 analysis of the functioning and components of certain military technologies so as to determine the skills/know-how present within the military sector;

2 comparison of this know-how with what exists in the civilian sector, including the current, planned, and potential applications of the technologies considered;

3 reflection concerning the research and development required to achieve realistic civilian applications;

4 reflection concerning the possible risks associated with spreading the corresponding technologies.

The research focuses on the technologies linked with intelligent missiles.
