Federal Council for Science Policy

The Federal Council for Science Policy (FRSP) is an advisory body on the Federal Government's science policy. Its secretariat is provided by BELSPO.

The council provides advice on research necessary for the proper functioning of the federal government and to comply with our international obligations. Examples are the MYRRHA project project or the creation of Sciensano .

The council can also issue opinions and make recommendations for the country as a whole if the federal government, but also community or regional governments, request them.

The Federal Government is also obliged to seek advice from the council if it wishes to provide structures or funding for research for which the Communities or the Regions are competent. This is necessary for matters that go beyond the regional interest or in order for a country to comply with international commitments.

The members of the council are appointed by the King and represent the research and socio-economic world.
