Access of non-Belgians to regulated professions

Pursuant to article 6, § 1, VI, fifth paragraph, 6°, of the special law of 8 August 1980, the federal legislator regulates access to and practise of the majority of regulated professions. However, the Communities have authority in educational professions and the Regions in professions relating to tourism.

The Minister of Science Policy has authority in the professional accreditation of architects of foreign nationality (other than citizens of EU member States or of another party State to the Agreement creating the European Economic Area), on the grounds of article 8 of the law of 20 February 1939 concerning the protection of the title and profession of architect.

The FPS Science Policy also assures the Belgian coordination of European Directive 2005/36/EC on the recognition of professional qualifications.
