Joint call of JPI Oceans on underwater noise in the marine environment.

The Belgian Science Policy Office (BELSPO) is one of the Belgian representatives in the JPI Oceans.

The JPI Oceans is launching a transnational call on the “Underwater Noise in the Marine Environment”. For this call funding partners from Belgium, Germany, Italy, Ireland, Norway, Poland, Romania and Spain have allocated a total amount of up to € 8,2 million funding.

The call will address two main challenges in the field through activities that may focus on:

Theme 1: Effects of anthropogenic noise pollution on marine ecosystems

Theme 2: Innovative seismic sources as an option for quieter and effective alternatives to conventional marine geophysical exploration.

Proposals need to involve eligible research partners from at least two participating countries. Projects will be funded for up to 36 months.

BELSPO will finance Belgian partners involved in the projects and has foreseen a budget of 500.000 EURO.
