Project file - The free entrance and- reduced fare policy in the Federal scientific Institutions, 2012

Commissioner

  • Science Policy PPS (BELSPO)

Research context

The idea was to make a comparative analysis of the free entrance and reduced fare policies in the different FSI’s based on recent data provided by the ticketing systems. A special focus was set on the figures of the so-called free Wednesdays. Every first Wednesday of the month, the Federal Museums can be visited free of the charge in the afternoon.

Special attention was given to the Museums and the Planetarium as they attract most of the public (not so much on the other FSI’s like the Royal Library, the State Archives etc.):

  • Royal Museums for Art and History (KMKG-MRAH)
    • Cinquantenaire Museum
    • Musical Instrument Museum (MIM)
    • Museums of the Far East,
    • Halle Gate Museum
  • The Royal Museums of Fine Arts (KMSKB-MRBAB)
    • Museums of Ancient and Modern Arts
    • Magritte Museum
  • The Royal Belgian Institute of Natural Sciences (KBIN-IRSNB)
  • The Royal Museum for Central Africa (KMMA-MRAC)
  • Royal Observatory of Belgium (KSB-ORB)
    • Planetarium

Method of data collection

Ad hoc analysis based on the data provided by the ticketing systems of the Museums and the Planetarium.
