Research context

In 2004 the Observatory of the Visitors Observatory was commissioned by 5 FSI’s (RMAH, RMFAB, RBINS, RMCA, Planetarium) to outsource an encompassing population survey to gather data about the notoriety, the image and the visitors’ profiles of the various Belgian Federal Museums. The survey was conducted among a representative sample of the Belgian population and carried out by IPSOS. The visitors Observatory was commissioned with the procurement procedure and the follow up of the project.
Meanwhile it is more than 10 years ago that this research was done and an update of these findings is needed. In the context budget cuts and budgetary prudence, the observatory proposed to work out a light-version of the IPSOS- survey of 2004.

Aim

The goal is multiple:

  1. To measure the visiting history of the Belgians to the Federal Museums, the Planetarium and the KBR
  2. To measure the potential among the Belgians to visit one of the Federal Museums and institutions
  3. To measure the notoriety of the Federal Museums and Institutions among the Belgians
  4. To measure the knowledge of the Belgians about the Federal Museums and institutions
  5. To measure the image Belgians have about the Federal Museums and Institutions.
  6. To measure the reasons for not visiting the Federal Museums and Institutions
  7. To measure the expectations of the visitors vis-à-vis museums in general.
