Introduction

In addition to the long-term research programmes, BELSPO also funds a number of priority impulse research initiatives in support of federal policy.

A large part of these impulse actions in the period 2021-2026 is financed within the framework of the Restart and Transition Plan (RTP), one of the three components of the Federal Government's Recovery and Investment Plan. The aim of this plan is to oxygenate our economy and make the transition to a sustainable and digital society in the context of the pandemic.

In light of the RTP, 45.2 M€ was allocated to federal science policy to support research. With this funding, the federal government is paving the way for the development of innovative solutions to current and future societal challenges and enabling the Federal Science Policy to continue playing its role by contributing to decision-making and strengthening the research capacity of the Federal Scientific Institutes (FSIs).
