- Checking within each research institution where the unique 'sensitive' knowledge or infrastructures (vulnerabilities) are identified located. It’s about knowing which threats can occur and how. ...
- Strengthen skills in research security, offer training opportunities. It is the intention that the future research security hub (hub-office system, tbc in 2026), in our country, provides information about or access to training. The RS hub will also be linked to the expected ‘European Center of Expertise for Research Security’, for sharing good practices and learn about methodologies applied by other European Member States.
- In the short term, develop and implement a RA tool within the existing BELSPO systems for calls for research proposals.
- Harmonisation of procedures in our country (e.g. on RA), so that researchers funded by different levels of policy have similar conditions (with regard to security-sensitive partnerships). And this should happen without causing too much administrative burdens for researchers or R&I institutions.
- Regular periodic review of the list of sensitive areas of knowledge given the rapidly evolving technologies.
- If necessary, create a legal basis, within a broader (national) security framework (e.g. to be able to prohibit cooperation with certain specific partners in a ‘self-care’ perspective.) Appropriate means are required to guarantee appropriate services for safe R&I collaborations in a long-term future-proof perspective.
- AI can amplify security risks.
- Develop a method for measuring the progress made in research security in our country.
