Federal, Interfederal and International Coordination

The mission of the “Interfederal and International Coordination” directorate is:
On the one hand, to organise federal consultation in R&D in order to exchange information relating to policies led by the various Belgian authorities and to determine common stances. The directorate also acts as the secretariat for the consultation structures, such as the committee for “International Cooperation" (CIS) or the committee for “Federal Cooperation” (CFS).
On the other hand, to stimulate international cooperation and the integration of the Belgian research world within the European research space, especially through the intervention of:

  • the coordination, representation and follow-up of international programmes such as the European Commission's 7th R&D Framework Programme, COST, EUREKA, some UNESCO and NATO science programmes
  • financing and follow-up of Belgian participation in major European research infrastructures such as ESO, EMBL and ESRF
  • encouraging research mobility
  • support for bilateral cooperations

Direction Scientific and Technical Information Service (STIS)

The STIS is an information intermediary serving the entire scientific community, the economic and social sphere as well as public services. It is particularly aimed at federal actors in research, innovation and the science policy and meets the specific needs of the Federal Science Policy and its scientific establishments.
Its activities are based on for key areas: R&D statistics and indicators, Databases, Publications and Specific services.
