Call for proposals 2022 - Polar Research

The polar regions are unique in multiple ways. They are a key driver of the Earth‘s climate and the functioning of the oceans. Polar research helps us understanding the global climate system, its changes and its direct impact on (indigenous) populations and the environment and implications for climate change adaptation, mitigation, and resilience around the world. Polar science forms the basis for a sustainable management of the polar regions.

With this call for proposals BELSPO would like to give an impulse to Belgian high-quality polar research that contributes and adds value to (an) existing European and/or international priority research initiative(s) in which the Belgian research community is active, thereby strengthening Belgium's position in the initiative(s) and reaching a significant scientific, political, economic and/or societal impact.

Important note: use of the RV BELGICA

The RV BELGICA ship time requests for year X are collected by RBINS at the end of May/beginning of June of the year X-1.
In case you plan to make use of the RV BELGICA in your proposal, it is recommended to send in the ship time application(s) as soon as possible, even though there is no certainty yet that your research proposal will be approved.
