Cartesius, a world of maps online.

The largest and richest cartographic collection on Belgium and Central-Africa has been made publicly available through Cartesius by the National Geographic Institute, the State Archives, the Royal Library and the Royal Museum for Central-Africa.

For the first time ever, you can browse through our rich cartographic collections in an innovative and geographical way with only one mouse-click.

Through a public cloud application you can manipulate old maps, aerial imagery and plans yourself, and then build your own virtual atlas. Combine maps, add other location data and share the results with others… It is in other words a kind of “geo-facebook”.

Rewarded with the eGovernment-award 2015 for its usability.
