DISSCO develops a records management application in support of basic administrative processes in scientific establishments. It provides for the automation of these processes and their integration with the decision-making structures. It incorporates workflow and document management (e.g. version management) functionalities on the one hand, and interfaces with an archives management application on the other. The DISSCO solution is standardized and open source.
The target users are scientific establishments (either State-run or other non-profit establishments fulfilling a scientific duty like universities). The application developed under this project will only be implemented by the project partners: Centre for Historical Research and Documentation on War and Contemporary Society (CEGES-SOMA), Royal Meteorological Institute of Belgium (IRM-KMI), Université Libre de Bruxelles (ULB) and Vrije Universiteit Brussel (VUB). However, because of the system's modularity a large number of scientific establishments are able to use the DISSCO solution.
The first phase of DISSCO consisted of an analysis of the processes and a study of the archival and technical standards and requirements applying to this kind of application. The main objectives for the second phase are the completion of the application and its implementation by the project partners.
