The Federal Public Planning Service Science Policy (BELSPO), with almost 2 600 employees and an annual budget of approximately €620 million (plus, at the federal level, some €1.6 billion in tax measures for research, development and innovation) is the fourth largest Federal Public Service. BELSPO is responsible for the preparation, implementation and evaluation of the Federal Science Policy. Through the 10 federal scientific institutes that are part of the FPS Science Policy, BELSPO manages and promotes a scientific and cultural heritage estimated at €3.5 billion (net book value).
