| Description nl | De belangrijkste focus van de huidige toepassing is het voortdurende onderzoek naar het samenspel tussen coagulatie en infectie. Dit onderzoek is enkele jaren geleden gestart en verder gebouwd op eerder onderzoek bij de CMVB over de potentiële therapeutische toepassingen van bacteriële plasminogeenactivatoren. Dit project verbindt vasculaire biologie, stolling en infectieziekten en genereert zeer stimulerende pluridisciplinaire projecten met interessante resultaten. Door het misbruik van de stolling van de gastheer door verschillende pathogenen te onderzoeken, willen we bacteriële virulentie beter begrijpen en voorkomen.

| Description en | The main focus of the current application is the ongoing research on the interplay between coagulation and infection. This research has been initiated a few years ago, and built further on previous research at the CMVB on the potential therapeutic applications of bacterial plasminogen activators. This project links vascular biology, coagulation and infectious diseases and generates very stimulating pluridisciplinary projects with interesting results. Through investigating the misuse of the host’s coagulation by different pathogens, we aim to better understand and prevent bacterial virulence.
