| Description nl | Met het doel om de levensduur van natuurvezelcomposieten te verbeteren voor verschillende applicaties, heeft men in voorgaand onderzoek veelvuldig geprobeerd om de vochtgevoeligheid van deze materialen te verbeteren. Vanwege het hydrofiele karakter van natuurvezel, nemen de eigenschappen van natuurvezel composieten af in de tijd door vochtopname als gevolg van veranderingen in omgevings condities. In deze studie stellen we een nieuwe methode voor om de levensduur van natuurvezel composieten te verbeteren, door vochtige vezels te gebruiken tijdens de productie van het composiet. De hypothese is dat het gebruik van vochtige vezel resulteert in geen verdere toename van de vochtopname, waardoor de degradatie van het composiet wordt afgeremd en de levensduur toeneemt.

| Description en | With the aim to enhance the durability of natural fibre composites for various applications, researchers have constantly made efforts to reduce the materials moisture sensitivity. Due to the hydrophilic character of natural fibre, the properties of natural fibre composite decline over time due to moisture absorption as a result of exposure to changing environmental conditions. In this study we propose a new method for enhancing the moisture durability of natural fibre composite by using ‘wet’ natural fibre in its production. We hypothesize that the use of wet natural fibre in the composite prevents further increase in moisture absorption, slowing its degradation, and thereby improving its durability.
