The ERA-NET DC-NET (Digital Cultural Heritage Network) project (www.dc-net.org) started in December 2009 and will end in November 2011.
Ministries of culture and research of 8 European Member States currently take part in the project, which aims to bring together the worlds of cultural heritage and of research e-infrastructures. The participating countries will investigate, in consultation with e-infrastructure providers, which existing and to be newly developed services can add value to the services provided and research executed by the cultural sector. A joint programme of cultural research priorities will be collectively established.
e-Infrastructures for Cultural Heritage is the first of three international conferences taking place in the course of the DC-NET project. Besides providing a presentation of the project and its preliminary results, the conference aims to open a debate on the possibilities e-infrastructures offer for services and research in the cultural heritage sector and on how the two communities (e-infrastructure operators and cultural heritage institutions) could better cooperate in the future not forgetting the necessary strong involvement of the research community. This debate will be initiated by general presentations on the operation and landscape of e-infrastructures in the international context and stimulated by presentations on best practices, current research and new (visionary) developments.
The conference aims to reach representatives from the cultural sector, ICT and research, and cultural and science policy. The full programme can be found on the conference website www.dcnet.be. All presentations will be in English (simultaneous translation into Dutch and French will be available).
Registration is free but obligatory.
