International networking of the Federal Scientific Institutions (FSIs)

The calls for international networking of the FSIs aim, on the one hand, to support the development and visibility of the FSIs expertise through their participation in networks with international partners and, on the other hand, to provide a framework for structural cooperation with countries/institutions involved in selected proposals.

Calls were held in 2012, 2013, 2015, 2018 and in 2020. The first two were 'open' in terms of themes. The 2018 call focused on cultural heritage. The 2020 call focused on organising an international event.

Cultural heritage (call 2018)

2018 was the European Year of Cultural Heritage. Institutions and citizens were encouraged to develop activities in support of European heritage. This BELSPO call extended beyond European heritage, in order to respond to the European motto 'open to the world' in terms of cooperation in research and innovation by being open to participants worldwide.

The call invited Belgian Federal Scientific Institutes (FSIs) to submit proposals for international networking in the field of cultural heritage with partners from countries of their choice. Cultural heritage includes tangible and  non-tangible heritage.

With an available budget of 300 000 euros, 11 networks involving 8 different FSI’s and some 60 partner institutions are supported for 3 years exchanges (2019-2021), including domestic research teams and  teams from the USA, Canada and Chile , Switzerland, Greece e.a European countries.., Burkina faso and Uganda.
