Pilier 1: Défis et connaissances du monde vivant et non-vivant


Le pilier 1 comprend un volet thématique stratégique (Pilier 1A) et un volet non thématique (Pilier1B).

Pilier 1A: Le fédéral face aux enjeux environnementaux globaux

Le pilier 1A contribue au développement de connaissances indispensables à l'éclairage des décisions à prendre à court, moyen et long terme par le niveau fédéral afin de faire face aux changements environnementaux globaux.

Le pilier 1A entend mobiliser la riche expertise présente dans les ESF pour répondre, en collaboration avec l'ensemble des universités du pays, à des priorités de recherche s'inscrivant dans des enjeux identifiés à l'échelle européenne et internationale (par ex. H2020, Belmont Forum, IPCC, IPBES, EMB, SCAR, les agendas stratégiques des JPIs auxquels la Politique scientifique fédérale contribue...).

Ces enjeux de recherche sont guidés par les engagements internationaux auxquels la Belgique a souscrit (CBD, SDG-2030, la convention climat et l'accord de Paris, le Traité Antarctique, OSPAR).

Ils concernent notamment, la recherche en appui à l'accord de Paris (notamment l'atténuation et l'adaptation aux changements climatiques et aux événements extrêmes), la protection de la biodiversité et des services écosystémiques, la protection de l'environnement naturel pour la santé, les risques naturels, l'exploitation durable des ressources.

→ la mise en oeuvre du pilier 1A se fait par les appels thématiques.

Pilier 1B: La contribution des ESF aux connaissances du système Terre et de l’univers

Le pilier 1B contribue au renforcement de la connaissance liée au monde vivant (ex: évolution) et non-vivant (ex: composantes du système Terre et de l'univers). Il s'articule autour d'expertises spécifiques, innovantes, propres aux ESF et qui répondent à des enjeux stratégiques de recherche.

→ la mise en oeuvre du pilier 1B se fait par les appels non-thématiques.

Créés pour soutenir le potentiel scientifique des Etablissements scientifiques fédéraux (ESF) dans leurs domaines de compétence et / ou leurs missions spécifiques, ces projets doivent être introduits par un ESF.
