Pijler 2: Erfgoedwetenschap ("Heritage science")

Pijler 2 "Heritage science" van het programma is gewijd aan het wetenschappelijk onderzoek ter ondersteuning van het federale - cultureel, wetenschappelijk en historisch - erfgoed en in het bijzonder het erfgoed in de federale wetenschappelijke instellingen (FWI’s), alsook het erfgoed waarop de FWI’s hun expertise inzetten. Het potentieel betrokken erfgoed is van uiteenlopende aard: materieel/tastbaar en immaterieel /digitaal, van nationale of internationale oorsprong.

De pijler heeft als doel de wetenschappelijke expertise te mobiliseren en te ontwikkelen inzake “erfgoedwetenschap" ("Heritage Science"), te weten het wetenschappelijk onderzoek ter ondersteuning van de conservatie, toegang (incl. via nieuwe ICT-middelen), interpretatie en beheer van het erfgoed, vooral met het oog op de wetenschappelijke exploitatie en de sociale valorisatie. Deze benadering, veelal interdisciplinair, bevindt zich op het kruispunt van een brede waaier aan kennis en expertise, van fundamentele wetenschappen tot humane- en kunstwetenschappen.

Het onderzoek beoogt de ondersteuning van:

  • het behoud en beheer van erfgoed en collecties, met het oog op de exploitatie, voornamelijk wetenschappelijk, via de ontwikkeling en/of het testen van best practices van technieken en methoden, van bemonstering, van digitalisering of andere beheeren conserveringsmethoden, documentatie, klassering, identificatie en toegang tot de informatie en/of toegang tot materiaal uit de collecties;

en/of

  • zijn plaatsing in sociale, artistieke, historische, geografische, milieugebonden, gezondheids-, wetenschappelijke, technische, politieke, archeologische, linguïstische, literaire, muzikale, economische of culturele context, in een synchronisch of diachronisch perspectief.

De uitvoering van deze pijler gebeurt zowel door thematische als niet-thematische oproepen. De onderzoeksprojecten zullen uitgevoerd worden door een FWI of zijn gebaseerd op de coördinatie van een FWI in samenwerking met universiteiten en andere onderzoeksinstellingen: de projecten hebben dus ook als uitdaging zich in te passen in de globale strategische prioriteiten van de FWI’s, op het vlak van hun wetenschappelijke expertise en/of hun missie met betrekking tot openbare dienstverlening.

      België heeft een rijk gezondheidsinformatielandschap, met waardevolle informatie uit administratieve bronnen (bv. het gebruik van gezondheidszorg, sterfte en doodsoorzaken, sociale zekerheid), evenals bevolkingsonderzoeken en monitoringsystemen. De dienst Levensstijl en chronische ziekten van Sciensano speelt een centrale rol in het Belgische gezondheidsinformatiesysteem. De dienst genereert en valoriseert gezondheidsinformatie om de gezondheidstoestand en de ongelijkheden op het vlak van gezondheid in België te kwantificeren en om de beleidsvorming inzake volksgezondheid te ondersteunen. Via het AHEAD-project, gesteund door Belspo, wil de dienst de zichtbaarheid van het Belgische gezondheidsinformatiesysteem vergroten en de heersende technische, wettelijke en ethische knelpunten identificeren. AHEAD onderzoekt de mogelijkheden om de bestaande gegevens in het Belgische gezondheidsinformatiesysteem te integreren en het gebruik ervan voor wetenschappelijke exploitatie en valorisatie te vergemakkelijken.

    • Gezonde Data – een online burgerconsultatie over het hergebruik van gezondheidsgegevens
      AHEAD ("Towards the development of a National Health Data Platform", een tweejarig project gefinancierd door Belspo) en de EU Joint Action TEHDAS ("Towards a European Health Data Space") hebben de online burgerconsultatie Gezonde Data gelanceerd over het hergebruik van gezondheidsgegevens voor doeleinden die verder gaan dan individuele zorg, zoals onderzoek en beleidsvorming. Het online platform wil reflectie, betrokkenheid en interactie tussen burgers stimuleren en dit onder meer aan de hand van een interactieve test, discussieborden en begeleidende informatie. De bijdragen van de burgers zullen worden verwerkt in toekomstige aanbevelingen voor de Europese Commissie betreffende de rol en betrokkenheid van burgers bij het hergebruik van gegevens.
      De online consultatie wordt georganiseerd door Sciensano (België), de Health Data Hub (Frankrijk) en de NHS Confederatie (Verenigd Koninkrijk). Het platform is beschikbaar in het Nederlands, Frans en Engels en toegankelijk voor alle Europese burgers. Burgers kunnen hun bijdrage leveren op het platform tot 4 april 2022.
      U wordt van harte uitgenodigd om de Gezonde Data burgerconsultatie te ontdekken, uw ideeën te delen en het initiatief verder te verspreiden binnen uw netwerk.

      In the context of the BRAIN-be 2.0 FAIR-GNSS project funded by BELSPO, the Royal Observatory of Belgium together with open science experts at Ghent University, is organizing a  webinar  "Putting the FAIR principles into practice: the journey of a GNSS data repository".
      The goal of the webinar is to give a hands-on introduction to FAIR data principles and showcase a practical implementation.
      We will illustrate the use of available tools and metrics to assess the initial level of "FAIRness" of the data in our repositories as well as the steps and the issues we experienced in the process of applying FAIR principles to our data:
      - restructuring of the data repositories,
      - use of Persistent Identifiers for data (DOI for GNSS data),
      - proposals for metadata standards for GNSS data as FAIR digital objects
      As the focus is on the "journey" and on our experience as a team dealing with GNSS data in "putting FAIR data principles into practice", the webinar could be of interest to the GNSS community,  but potentially also to anyone struggling to apply FAIR data principles to their data/repositories.

      Wie in het ancien régime voor een ernstig misdrijf werd vervolgd, een zware straf had gekregen of riskeerde, kon daarvoor gratie vragen aan de vorst. Het Rijksarchief bewaart duizenden pardonbrieven, die door de Bourgondische en Habsburgse vorsten aan hun onderdanen werden verleend. Deze verzameling behoort tot de meest prominente vroegmoderne archiefreeksen in het Rijksarchief, niet alleen omwille van haar juridische betekenis en de rijkdom van de narratieve structuren van deze archieven, maar ook omwille van de uitzonderlijk lange tijdspanne die ze bestrijkt.
      Het PARDONS-project zorgt voor de ontsluiting, de valorisatie en de wetenschappelijke studie van deze unieke collectie gratiebrieven. Daarvoor doet het onderzoeksteam een beroep op burgerwetenschappers, die meehelpen met de transcriptie en ontsluiting van deze omvangrijke bronnenreeks. Na digitalisering, beschrijving en transcriptie worden zowel de beelden van de bronnen als de transcripties gevaloriseerd op een website, die aan een breed publiek toegang verleent tot deze fascinerende bronnen.

      Networks and Visual Seriality in Mass-Market Print Culture
      In april 2024 organiseren KBR en KU Leuven een gezamenlijk evenement ter afsluiting van het ARTPRESSE-project. Dit project is een Brain-be 2.0 onderzoeksproject dat een intermediale studie biedt van Belgische kunst als een genetwerkte structuur gezien door de lens van massamediamagazines in het interbellum. De conferentie is een samenwerking tussen de projecten ARTPRESSE en PopHeritage (Belspo/FED-tWIN), KBR en KU Leuven.
      Deze conferentie bestrijkt een periode die zich uitstrekt van na de Eerste Wereldoorlog tot de jaren 1960 en nodigt uit tot nieuwe perspectieven op de Europese populaire seriële cultuur in gedrukte vorm, haar diverse vormen en haar medianetwerken in de 20e eeuw, alsook op de archief- en curatoriële benaderingen van dit type gedrukt erfgoed.
      Deze conferentie stelt voor om dit diverse aanbod te benaderen door het prisma van twee onderling verbonden concepten - netwerken en serialiteit - die relaties, verbanden en dialogen beschrijven en vastleggen te midden van de levendige diversiteit van de massamediale drukcultuur. Samen, op een open en omvattende manier gedefinieerd, openen deze twee concepten nieuwe wegen voor onderzoek naar periodieke culturen.

      KBR zet robots in bij het digitaliseren van boeken en tijdschriften
      KBR zal dankzij de aankoop van drie geautomatiseerde scanners haar online aanbod met maar liefst 15.000 pagina’s per dag, of 3.000.000 pagina’s per jaar, kunnen uitbreiden. Het gaat specifiek om Belgische boeken en tijdschriften uit de 19de en de 20ste eeuw. Met deze toestellen kunnen ze sneller worden gedigitaliseerd en dus online toegankelijk gemaakt.

      KBR introduit la robotisation dans sa chaîne de numérisation de livres et de périodiques
      L’achat de trois scanners automatiques va permettre à KBR d’accélérer l’enrichissement de son offre en ligne à hauteur de 15.000 pages par jour, soit 3.000.000 de pages par an. Grâce à ces équipements spécifiques, les collections de livres et de périodiques belges des XIXe et XXe siècles pourront être numérisées plus rapidement et ainsi rendues disponibles en ligne.

      KBR start een crowdsourcing-actie om Belgische sociale media-inhoud te archiveren. Welke accounts en hashtags verdienen het om gearchiveerd te worden? #biefstukfriet of #donderdagveggiedag? @pukkelpop of @RockWerchter? Iedereen mag suggesties inzenden via www.kbr.be/nl/socialmedia .
      Als nationale bibliotheek bewaart en beheert KBR een collectie van 8 miljoen documenten. De overgrote meerderheid daarvan zijn ‘fysieke’ documenten, maar de instelling bewaart ook een grote collectie digitale documenten. We digitaliseren onze erfgoedcollecties, maar bieden ook digital-born publicaties zoals e-books, e-journals en databanken aan.
      Maar wat met het nationale erfgoed op het web? Er bestaan een aantal web- en sociale media- archiveringsinitiatieven in België, zoals goede praktijken voor de archivering van sociale media in Vlaanderen en Brussel, maar een groot deel van het Belgische web wordt niet bewaard. Nochtans maken het web en de sociale media al jaren deel uit van ons dagelijks leven.
      Het BESOCIAL-project van KBR ontwikkelt daarom een duurzame strategie voor het archiveren en bewaren van sociale media op federaal niveau. Daarnaast werkt KBR aan een beleid voor het archiveren van websites en zou ze in 2024 starten met het systematisch archiveren van een deel van het Belgische web.

      Meet Elodie-Laure Jimenez (RBINS - University of Aberdeen). As a zooarchaeologist, her job is to study prehistoric predators and their life during the last Ice Age. The only way to understand what happened to these extinct species is to study the fossils that have survived the test of time.       De Laatste 242: het militair gerecht en de executies in het kader van de bestraffing van de collaboratie na de Tweede Wereldoorlog.
      Ontmoeting Publieksgeschiedenis van het CegeSoma (2023-8)
      Conferentie (in het Frans en in het Nederlands) met als gasten Élise Rezsöhazy, Dimitri Roden, Stanislas Horvat en Dirk Luyten
      Na de Tweede Wereldoorlog werden in België 242 ter dood veroordeelde collaborateurs en oorlogsmisdadigers gefusilleerd. Deze executies waren niet alleen de zwaarst mogelijke straf voor collaboratiefeiten, ze staan ook in het collectieve geheugen gegrift omdat de maatschappelijke en symbolische weerslag ervan groot was. Toch bestaan er nog veel misvattingen en mythes over deze terechtstellingen. Het BELSPO-BRAIN 2.0 project Postwarex, een samenwerking tussen het CegeSoma en de Koninklijke Militaire School, onderzocht deze executies vanuit het perspectief van het militair gerecht, dat een centrale rol speelde bij deze terechtstellingen en het proces dat ernaartoe leidde. De onderzoekers van Postwarex kregen voor het eerste toegang tot het hele archief van het militair gerecht. Ze konden niet alleen een gedetailleerd profiel schetsen van de 242 personen die werden terecht gesteld, maar ook de executies en het besluitvormingsproces in detail reconstrueren. Het resultaat van het onderzoek is nu beschikbaar in het Nederlands en in het Frans in twee nieuwe publicaties De Laatste 242/Les dernières 242 exécutions en Belgique, uitgegeven door Lannoo en Racine.
      In deze tweetalige conferentie Publieksgeschiedenis georganiseerd door het CegeSoma en de vzw ‘De Vrienden van het CegeSoma’ op woensdag 29 november 2023 (16.30 – 18.00 u.) ! gaan de vier auteurs dieper in op de definitieve resultaten van hun onderzoek, waarvan ze al enkele deelaspecten belichtten in de afsluitende conferentie van Postwarex in mei 2022. Het is tevens een gelegenheid om met de auteurs in dialoog te gaan over deze executies en hun betekenis voor de repressie en voor de langetermijn geschiedenis van de Belgische justitie.

      Indringende reconstructie van de terechtstelling van collaborateurs na WO II
      Na de Tweede Wereldoorlog werden in België 242 ter dood veroordeelde collaborateurs en oorlogsmisdadigers gefusilleerd. Onder hen ook de bekende Irma Laplasse en voormalig kampcommandant van Breendonk Philipp Schmitt, die op 9 augustus 1950 als laatste de kogel kreeg. De executies staan in het collectieve geheugen van de repressie gegrift. De maatschappelijke en symbolische weerslag was groot. En toch, of net daarom, zijn er veel misvattingen over deze terechtstellingen. Dit boek opent voor het eerst het volledige archief van het militair gerecht, de centrale speler in het verhaal. Vier oorlogs- en rechtshistorici presenteren individuele cases en leggen de rol van diverse schakels in de besluitvorming bloot. Wie kreeg de doodstraf en voor welke feiten? Vochten de verschillende beleidsmakers om de macht? Hoe verliepen de genadeverlening en de strafuitvoering? Welke rol vervulden de executies in de afhandeling van de oorlog en de bezetting? 'Klopt het dat de Vlaamse idealist verhoudingsgewijs harder bestraft is dan de Franstalige collaborateur? En zijn er inderdaad mensen voor relatief lichte misdrijven tot de doodstraf veroordeeld? Dankzij het groepsportret van de gefusilleerden kunnen we nu een onderscheid maken tussen werkelijkheid en mythe.'
